Brittanie Brown

Mission Scholarship Meal

Join us for the annual dinner to raise funds for the Brittanie Brown Mission Scholarship held immediately after the morning worship on September 21.

First Baptist set up the scholarship to honor Brittanie's calling for missions.  Brittanie passed away in 2005 in a tragic car accident just one week before she was to go on a mission trip to East Asia. Seven scholarships have been awarded since the fund was established.

The morning worship on September 21 will have a special mission emphasis.  Dexton Shores will bring the morning message to encourage First Baptist members with his experience as a director of River Ministry.  Three Apart will provide special music.

The Faith Sunday School class is planning to help with meal preparation.  If you would like to help, please contact Cindy Roberts, Joan Worthey, or Joyce Horna. The menu will be chicken and rice, rolls, green beans, salad, and dessert.

The money raised will help fund mission trips to those who apply and qualify for a scholarship. Your prayers and support are needed to continue funding mission scholarships.

TEEN CHALLENGE LADIES' CHOIR

will lead our services with testimonies and songs!

"Teen Challenge is a faith-based solution for the drug epidemic. Teen Challenge began in 1958 in the heart of a young minister named David Wilkerson.  While visiting New York City, he was moved when he witnessed the devastating effects of drugs, alcohol, and gangs in the lives of teenagers. There are now over 400 campuses operating in 92 different countries serving people in all age groups.  Teen Challenge is dedicated to helping people overcome addictions and the devastating effects of drugs and alcohol."

Teen Challenge receives funding through charitable donations, grants, and fees.  The average cost to house, feed, and maintain the activities and facilities is approximately $1680 per month per student.  "Students give back to their communities by participating in community-service activities such as drug awareness prevention presentations in schools and church services. Students also assist with the day-to-day operations of the campus, including maintenance, meal preparation, housekeeping, and office work.  This helps to keep operating costs to a minimum."

For more information on Teen Challenge regarding adolescents (age 17 & under), call 417-862-6969 or visit www.teenchallengeusa.com.

For more information on Teen Challenge regarding adult and family programs, call one of their campuses, or go to the web at www.tctexas.org

The SAN ANTONIO Campus is located at 3850 S Loop 1604 W, San Antonio.  Their phone is 210-624-2075.

FBC "Adopts"

Booker T. Washington
Elementary School

On Thursday night, August 21, First Baptist Church was on hand at Booker T. Washington (BTW) Elementary to help with the open house for parents and students.  Amparo and Ramiro Garza, Denise Meyer, Vickie Dawson, Lila and Dwight Reagan, and Ann and Gene Franz were there to cook over 500 hot dogs, assist with serving, greeting, cleaning, whatever was needed.  The people at the school were gracious and appreciative of all that was done for them.  It was the biggest and most successful opening night they have had at BTW and we got to be a part of it!  Praise God!

There are going to be many more events at BTW that First Baptist Church will be on hand to assist.  If you are interested in being a part of this great outreach ministry, be sure to give Vickie Dawson a call.  It is surprising how many of the people you meet, you already know.  It is also a blessing to hear their heartfelt appreciation when they understand that the community supports them and cares about them.  Many of you are teachers or former teachers so you understand best how good it feels.  Thank you to everyone who helped with this project.
